SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - A high-speed pursuit in Sullivan County ends in tragedy.
Police say 15-year-old Landon Jay Dunn of Oaktown, Indiana stole a white 1995 GMC van in Carlisle, Indiana. An Indiana Conservation Officer spotted the car traveling north on U.S. 41.
He was joined by the Indiana State Police as they tried to get Dunn to pull over. The van was speeding over 80 miles an hour, north on Section Street in Sullivan County. Police ended the pursuit near the Sullivan city limits.
Minutes later, the van crashed into a cement block fixture on the corner of Section and Silver Streets. Dunn died at the scene.
"I don't think we'll ever know the reasons why he stole the car, where he was going, why he didn't stop, I mean, we can only assume he didn't stop because you know, he had stolen a vehicle, but uh, you know it's uh, we'll never know," said Sgt. Joe Watts, Indiana State Police.
An autopsy was performed earlier Tuesday. An investigation continues.
